As a second-level course, EDUC 3610 extends and elaborates upon the theoretical foundations of Intergroup Dialogue, while simultaneously learning to create dialogues in situations where active listening and intergroup understanding are needed – requisite skills for successful dialogue facilitation.
In this course, students are exposed to models of social identity development, intercultural competency, and conflict exploration. Special emphasis is placed on practice-centered skill development in group processes, coalition building, and leadership. Although the dialogues revolve around social justice issues, the skills garnered will arguably enable students to engage in meaningful dialogue on myriad issues at home, among friends, and in our communities.
As a student in EDUC 3610, you will have the opportunity to:
- Learn the process-content model for successful dialogue facilitation
- Develop effective facilitation skills, including communication, conflict exploration and bridge building
- Apply social justice issues to facilitation situations
- Develop an increased awareness of yourself as an individual and as a member of social groups
- Learn more about your own and others’ cultures, histories and experiences
- Explore commonalities and differences across cultural boundaries
- Identify actions that contribute to the creation of socially just communities.

Prerequisite: EDUC 2610 or equivalent experience with instructor permission.
